Bitcoin ETFs Snap Losing Streak — But It’s a One-Fund Party
One fund did the heavy lifting
On July 29 U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs finally stopped a rough run of outflows and printed about $32.1 million in net inflows. Before you cue the victory parade, know this: almost all of that money came from a single player. BlackRock’s IBIT brought in roughly $89.8 million, which was just enough to cancel out about $43.1 million that left Fidelity’s FBTC and about $14.6 million that exited ARK’s ARKB. The other listed funds were essentially flat for the session.
So yes, the headline number was positive — but it’s a classic case of one fund carrying the whole team on its back.
Why this isn’t a real rebound (yet)
The week leading up to July 29 was a bloodbath for ETF flows: roughly $225 million left on July 23, about $240 million on July 24, roughly $11 million on July 27, and around $49 million on July 28. That adds to about $526 million in outflows over four sessions. Even with the $32 million inflow, the five-session total still sits about $494 million in the red. In short: the tiny green day only patched part of a much bigger hole.
Remember how ETFs are structured: only big authorized participants create or redeem shares directly with a fund in large blocks, while everyone else buys and sells on the secondary market. That setup means a single large participant or a single popular fund can swing the daily flow headline without signaling a broad-based return of demand.
If upcoming sessions show gains spread across multiple issuers instead of just one big inflow for IBIT, then you can start talking about a genuine market-level recovery. Until then it looks like a one-fund show — impressive for IBIT, but hardly proof that institutional appetite for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs is back in force.
On the price front, Bitcoin was modestly higher over the prior 24 hours (around a 0.45% uptick) and the broader crypto market remained large and active. Keep an eye on the next few trading days: if other funds start pulling inflows, the story will change. If not, this was just a flash of green in an otherwise red week.
